The Gathering Place provides drug addiction prevention material and presentations to:

  • Schools
  • Universities
  • Companies
  • Community Fairs

The Prevention Team is a volunteer organization that is manned primarily by students and interns from UVSC and BYU, but also includes concerned members of the community who want to help.

If you want to be involved or would like a prevention team to visit your organization, contact drkay@gatheringplace.org.

What works to help kids stay drug free?

  • Family with good support, strong structure, good communication, and lots of love. (Gathering Place provides Parenting Classes)
  • Positive school experience. Teens who have academic trouble in school are more likely to become involved in drug use.
  • After school activities that provide not only entertainment, but also a chance to accomplish goals and learn skills. This includes hobbies, sports or working in a career-oriented and well-supervised setting. Boredom and lack of supervision increases the chance that a youth will choose to use drugs.
  • Positive Peer Pressure. Teens who have friends who are not involved in drug use rarely become involved themselves.
PREVENTION TEAM

Presentations: Volunteers reach out to the community both through schools and businesses with drug prevention information. Presentations are made for all different ages and audiences. These presentations help to make more people aware of The Gathering Place and the programs it offers, as well as help the community become better educated about drug use and its dangers.

Distributing Brochures: Volunteers are responsible to check each week, and refill if needed, the brochures distributed to different pharmacies, doctor's offices and various public providers. The brochures distributed help educate people about various prescription drugs and what services The Gathering Place provides. It is very important that brochures are distributed and people are made aware of treatment The Gathering Place provides so that people in need of treatment know where to go to get help.
