Art Start: Playing With Polymers Art Workshop

July 13, 2019 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

In partnership with Tulsa Artist Fellowship, join artist fellow Christa Romanosky for a Playing with Polymers Art Workshop on July 13 inside ONEOK Boathouse!

Students will use hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers to create their own colorful visual art by mixing shaving cream and food dye on a paper plate, and making prints of their final product. This involves pressing the mixture onto card stock, envelopes, or a similar item, then scraping shaving cream away to reveal a one-of-a-kind print!

As we move towards a more technical world, Art Start programs will highlight STEAM classes in a fun way for children to see that the arts and science are often integrated, not separate.

About Christa Romanosky

Christ has an MFA in poetry from the University of Virginia, and has taught creative writing in some capacity for over ten years. For the past five years, she has taught week-long and 3-hour K-4 workshops in STEM and creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. As part of her work with university's Center for Service Learning and Outreach, she hosted many drop-in activities for children at events such as Pittsburgh ArtsFest, Take Your Kids to Work Day, and various elementary school programs. All workshops were hands-on and included an arts component. While in Provincetown, MA as a Fine Arts Work Center fellow in 2017-2018, Christa provided a 6-week class to second-graders which fused science and poetry. Christa designed and will be facilitating K-12 arts activities for Turnaround, which will take place this summer, and looks forward to providing a community workshop at Gathering Place!
