Gilcrease in Your Neighborhood

October 2022 to September 2023

While the new Gilcrease Museum is being built, our friends at the museum are bringing art from their collection to you! “Gilcrease in Your Neighborhood” is a public art experience featuring one high-quality reproduction displayed in 31 locations at once. Each reproduction is up for about three months before being switched to a new artwork for another three months. The sites are as varied as our diverse community. Think parks, libraries, community gathering places and even hiking trails. Inside and outside. One artwork. 31 locations. Visit them all! Find details of locations and events at Gilcrease.org.

Forest Scene, a whimsical painting by Pop Chalee (Taos Pueblo), features the densely wooded mountains of Taos, New Mexico where the artist spent time during her childhood. Details of plants, trees and animals in the painting reflect her affinity for and careful observation of the natural world. The vivid blue deer bounding across the forest floor are rumored to have inspired Disney’s iconic Bambi character.
