Gathering Place Winterizes Park Greenery

"What many of the visitors don’t see is how much work goes into caring for 1.2 million plants and shrubs. 'If you walked in and the landscape didn’t look well, the emotional feeling and experience you have would be different,' explained the Executive Director Tony Moore.

PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF OKLAHOMA PSO Announces $1.25M AEP Foundation Grant for Gathering Place to Offer Free Community-Based Learning Opportunities to Students

"Public Service Company of Oklahoma announced a $1.25 million grant from the American Electric Power Foundation that will provide funding to the Gathering Place for world-class learning opportunities to an estimated 75,000 students throughout the region over the next five years.

The commitment from AEP Foundation will provide resources for transportation assistance, curriculum development and professional development for educators for field trip programs at Gathering Place as well as educational events for the community. The transportation assistance for 400 planned field trips will be primarily intended for students in low-income communities and from Title I schools..."

The planning process included a nine-month period of public meetings and online public comment solicitation starting in 2012. More than 2,000 public comments were gathered, and the project team from the Kaiser Foundation and landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates built relationships in the community to gain additional insight and input."

We Had a Blast in Tulsa: A $465 Million Park, Art Deco Buildings and Even Folk Tunes Helped.

"...When planning our spring break trip, I drew a circle around our home city of St. Louis. I didn’t want to drive more than six hours. I wanted family fun, something different and full of surprises.

Tulsa, about 400 miles from St. Louis, sat on the southwest edge of that circle. In the fall, the city had just opened a 66-acre, $465 million jewel of a park along the Arkansas River called Gathering Place, a name that literally beckoned me. The park’s landscape architect, Michael Van Valkenburgh, led recent changes to the Gateway Arch grounds back home.

Food Bank Opens Summer Feeding Sites For Children In Tulsa

Gathering Place announced its 2019 Signature Event Calendar. From cultural celebrations and food festivals to sports tournaments and seasonal events, it includes 11 free events from June to December.
